- ➤ Rogers High School's Craft Fair, sponsored by the Class of 2026, will feature over 40 vendors selling crafts and food on Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rogers High School—vendors will offer items like soaps, jewelry, plants, pottery, carved wooden pieces and local snacks from the food truck. - ➤ Newport County has five local events this weekend—Salve Regina University’s REDUX dance show runs at the historic Casino Theatre tonight at 7:30 p.m. and the Thanksgiving Cranberry-Craze Specialty Farmers Market will take place at Tiverton Middle School on Nov 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other events include the 20th Annual Holiday Show at Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design on Nov 22 from 5 to 7 p.m., a garlic planting volunteer event at Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm on Nov 22 from 10 a.m. to noon, and Jamestown Community Theatre presenting Matilda the Musical from Nov 20 to 23. - ➤ Newport County is hosting several community events and volunteer opportunities this week— the MLK Community Center will serve a free Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. while Temple Shalom in Middletown will host its 51st annual service on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., and EBCAP at 19 Broadway along with the City of Newport are seeking volunteers. Local honors include the election of Lori Caron Silveira as the 2nd Vice President of the IBTTA, the Rhode Island Hope Award presented by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa to Benjamin Church Senior Center and Gloria Schmidt, a $98.3 million contract awarded to SENEDIA to support submarine industrial workforce training, West Place Animal Sanctuary winning the Defender Service Award, and BankNewport being named a Best Bank to Work For. - ➤ A nonprofit secured $750,000 to expand its Get Food Smart program to all Newport County elementary schools—students will lead food waste recycling projects that lower landfill waste and help provide food to families in need. - ➤ On Wednesday, the Public Utilities Commission discussed whether Rhode Island Energy could offer customers winter relief credits—after the company canceled a plan to provide about $75 a month because an agreement was not approved in time. - ➤ Rhode Island’s public transportation will receive two dozen new hybrid buses after a $25 million federal grant was secured by Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo—supporting RIPTA's goal to transition to a zero-emission fleet. ABC6
