  • On a chilly October morning, Roby Farin drove her red Ford truck to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center with winter squash from her Middletown farm as volunteers gathered to prepare for a surge in food demand after SNAP benefits were halted amid a government shutdown. The center held an emergency food drive on Nov. 2 that collected over 8,000 pounds of food to support Newport’s working poor—though it remains unclear when SNAP funds will resume.  The Newport Daily News

  • Prout won the Division 2 girls tennis championship on Saturday at Slater Park by defeating Rogers 4 to 0—winning three singles matches and two doubles matches. The Crusaders secured the title as Rogers made its first state final appearance in years.  What's Up Newp
  • The Coast Guard Academy earned its first win in Newport on Friday by defeating Salve Regina 36-31—stopping a comeback attempt with a key turnover on the final drive, while Salve Regina celebrated Senior Day by honoring 38 team contributors.  What's Up Newp
